slow gherkinHAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM SLOW GHERKIN - 2 SONG DIGITAL EP AVAILABLE NOW!Twelve years ago, Santa Cruz ska band Slow Gherkin drove up to Petaluma and spent a day recording three holiday covers: "Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight") by the Ramones, "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses and "Fuck Christmas" by Fear (that last one appears on Death of a Ska Band: Rarities 1994-2002). We had spent most of 1998 touring and recording, and the lineup was undergoing some big changes. So that day, AJ played bass, Ross and Matt played guitar, Josh Montgomery, Achilles and Phil played horns, Peter Cowan played keys, and AJ and James sang. The songs were supposed to appear on a Japanese holiday comp (in fact, Dan Potthast recently told me that their contributions to the comp were the inspiration for the MU330 album Winter Wonderland), but it never came out. We sat on the songs for the next decade, occasionally digging them up to enjoy Ross' sax-under-the-Xmas-tree solo at the end of "Christmas Wrapping." Now, having played two reunion shows for Asian Man's 15th Anniversary, we're finally releasing them. They make a great gift...to yourself! Check it out here. |
